RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}/s c. to BY/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}/Cy.6/LS.3.9.37. [STAMP: BY LILLIE-HALL ARCHIVED] COMPLAINT FROM LILLIE-HALL. BENTLEY CHASSIS - B-71-KU. In connection with the faulty ignition switch RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}/Smd.{J. Smedley} has instructed for a special test to be made for proving the correct position of contact, and this has been in operation for four weeks. Unfortunately there will be no guarantee of correctness with switches produced prior to this period. The terminal plate returned is a most unsatisfactory job. It may have been 'reamed' out in re-tapping with a taper tap, or it may have been stripped with a slack screw, and then closed in the vice to restore the fit. We cannot trace the fitter who built the switch as its code number was not quoted. These switches are carefully examined twice before leaving the department and signed off by a departmental Inspector. Under these circumstances, while not proving conclusively that we are not at fault, it is quite possible for this switch to have been tampered with after leaving the Works. RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}/Cy. [Signature] | ||
