-2- HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}1/KW, 8.11.34. We note in the Bentley list that there are 33 complaints of irregular slow running and that these are alleged to have been overcome by tuning up. It appears to us that this information might with advantage have been amplified because we have learned, more or less by chance, that a great many sparking plugs are being changed at Kingsbury, and severe criticisms levelled at the carburetters. In actual fact the Bentley slow running will never be good because the camshaft and induction pipe do not permit it, but we do not believe that this slow running deteriorates very much after the cars leave the Works unless the carburetters are adjusted by other people. What is really necessary is that anyone who has anything to do with the servicing of a Bentley should know what the standard of slow running is in the Test Dept. and work to that.
