[REDACTED] [REDACTED] [REDACTED] C. to Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} PHANTOM III FRONT SUSPENSION. In view of the possibility of injury to anyone attempting to dismantle Phantom III front spring suspension mechanism without taking the necessary precautions to hold the main suspension springs in compression, we give below an outline of the procedure which must be adopted should it be desired to remove the main spring housings. Referring to the sketches attached. 1. Disconnect and remove oil pipes to bearings at outer end of upper triangle levers. 2. Remove clamping bolts A and B. 3. Jack up front of car and remove road wheels. 4. Disconnect brake rods and also steering tube at front end. 5. Remove bearing housing retaining bolt and withdraw housings C and D, complete with rollers. 6. Withdraw distance piece E and fulcrum pin F and swing pivot and brake gear clear of spring housings. 7. Remove bottom plug G in spring housing and drain oil. 8. Remove end plug H in spring housing and insert spring compressing tackle in screwed bore of piston. 9. Tighten up compressing tool to relieve all tension on 5/16" housing nuts. 10. Remove housing nuts and withdraw cover and springs complete with compressing tool. 11. Slack off spring compressor and remove springs. It would be advisable to add a note of warning in the Instruction Book, so that all concerned are advised of the | ||
