25-EX L.H. CHASSIS.

Replying to Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}3/E19.9.30. We are having trouble with this car due to the fact that it is a very bad example of a noisy and booming car. It will have to be considerably improved before it will be fit to demonstrate as a model for cars to be sold in U.S.A. next year. We have gone over most of the points on the chassis with very limited success. We are also attacking the coachwork with an idea of destroying its resonance effects. We expect on Tuesday next to have arrived at some definite results.

The car otherwise is complete except for the radiator, this is having fitted to it the latest W.W. anti-spilling device. There have been one or two difficulties in the production of this but it will be completed by Tuesday.

We are also trying to select for this car a quiet 3rd. speed gear as practically the whole of the American cars are now fitted with some form of silent 3rd. This is a point we expect to be criticised.

We have also got to discuss with R.{Sir Henry Royce} as regards the temperature at which the thermostat is to operate. We are certain that U.S.A. will not accept thermostats which do not close until 40°C. For their winter conditions this would be hopeless.

We have no wish to take this car to U.S.A. until it is as good as we know how to make it. We think we shall get quite enough criticisms out there even when we have arrived at that position.

I am hoping that when you are in Derby on Thursday next this car will be completed. We are preparing a schedule of all the detail# parts fitted to it so that this can be discussed with you on ~~Tuesday~~ Thursday.
