Dear Pilkington,

Thank you very much for your letter of the 28th. inst.

I understand now that you are putting chromium plating on the bore, up to a thickness of several thou.

As we are extremely interested in chromium plating we hope you will tolerate further questions on the subject.

The problem about putting thick chrome plate on, as far as we are concerned, is that it is not easy to do unless the plating covers the whole of the bore.

Our experience is, that if plating the full length of the bore, we get incipient and isolated piston seizures.

At the present moment, we are flash-plating the top 2.5" of the bore, and, though our experience is very limited, it does seem as if this will help us considerably.

The only alternative we have of getting this short chromium plating in the bore to a thickness of 4 or 5 thou. is to use a chromium plated short insert, but this is so extravagant that we wish to avoid it if it is possible.

I will be very interested to discuss the matter with Mr. Spurrier, and after his visit to Derby it may be possible to interchange information to our mutual benefit.

Yours sincerely,
