STEERING PIVOT BUSHES.

The use of floating bushes has been frequently suggested and we are under the impression that a verbal instruction to try them has been given though we have not been able to trace our own letter. In any case however it will be obvious that the bottom bush can be tried by simply free-ing it in the stub axle, and the top bush can be made by boring out the upper thrust bearing housing and putting in a floating bush as indicated in the sketch. If the experiment were found a success a subsequent improvement might be to increase the dia. of the lower part of the thrust bearing housing and so get in a thicker bush.

We are under the impression that this instruction was on the same letter in which we suggested that grease might be tried again. Apparently it is not so and we now should like to point out again that we think it might be found that grease was superior to oil in this position because of its more lasting qualities. We have found that the "Emots Super Gun" is a definite improvement and we should think that it would enable you to force grease into the bearings of the pivot with certainty.
