1022 Confidential. To: Wym.{G. Harold Whyman - Experimental Manager} from Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 5/h.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} 10.1.44. SILVER RIPPLE. I would like a Report on the valve gear noise on this car. There is a valve clatter which comes up at 35 m.p.h. in top gear and which is aggravated by the throttle opening - that is, it does not exist at light throttle openings and is quite noticeable at full throttle. This suggests that it cannot be due to the fact that the cam forms were not finished ground. The valve gear is also very noisy for 3 or 4 miles after starting up, suggesting that there is a shortage of oil during this period. In the starting position of the mixture control, lubrication is not reached enough to enable a start to be made. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} | ||
