V3779 EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}5/H15.9.24. re. SPECIAL BODY MOUNTING. BRADBURN & WEDGE.(WOLVERHAMPTON). Many thanks for your DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/Evl/M9.9.24. Reporting on this matter some time ago I pointed out that it was the results which were so particularly pleasing and at the same time pointed out the possibilities of the body itself not being sufficiently rigid, and that possibly after running for some time trouble would be experienced with the body. Mr. Bradburn himself called at the Works the other day with this car which we understand he is using very successfully as a Trials car. We again tried the car at the Works, and the car was particularly powerful and the engine particularly vigorous, but in spite of this there was a complete absence of booms and the body was quite quiet and did not suffer from rattles or "dithers". Mr. Bradburn explained that he had used the car on the Continent and had done about 3,000 or 4,000 miles, no attention having been given to the body. He is now keen on fixing a similar construction on a 40/50 Car which he is supplying. We got him to discuss this matter with Mr. Clough (in BY's absence)and we were able to impress upon him the importance of the bottom frame work of the body being particularly rigid, also to avoid the special brackets, but rather, if he still wished to persevere with this scheme, to rest the body through the rubber blocks direct on to the frame. Since his visit he has again been in touch with us, and we find he proposes to do this and intends to bring such a car to the Works shortly for us to test. If he finds he can get similarly good results with this type of body mounting he will certainly prefer it. The next time we see Mr. Bradburn we will bring forward your instructions re sheet metal web. The point we wish to emphasise, however, is that with the car he has done so far he certainly has got CONTD. | ||
