Re Phantom III Petrol Tank Suction Pipe.

We have already sent you LeC 4934 showing the suction pipe moved back, together with the anti-surge tower and sump to enable one to draw much more nearly the full capacity of the tank on an incline.

We have no objection to this scheme ourselves, but on investigating its effect upon the coachwork we discovered that the fixing on the top of the tank for the moved back position would materially embarrass the Coachbuilder.

In view of the fact that a large number of bodies have been built already or are in the course of construction, we feel that this fitting cannot be adopted for production with safety.

We send herewith LeC 4974 showing the base of the suction pipe and the anti-surge tower in the same position as on LeC 4934, but by means of a bent suction pipe the top fitting is exactly the same as on the original 33 gallon tank which was ordered up for production. We ascertained that the suction pipe can be placed into the tank after the latter is made. We wish therefore that LeC 4974 should entirely supersede LeC 4934.
