X 3699 X.3743. - 2EX Chassis - 10,000 mile Test. Contd. -2- Hsl/LG9.4.20. X.3530! X. 2. Magneto Drive. The Magneto Drive which has been running on 2.EX is one made up with Hardy Fabric joints. This has run quite successfully but our impression is that the other new Magneto Drive (X.3699) which we are testing (serrated type) is the better job and more easily produced. It is intended that with the serrated one the internal and external serrations shall be cut. On the Fellows Gear Cutter. The trouble we have found with the fabric couplings is that it is very difficult to get them to run absolutely true and it looks very bad to lift the bonnet and see the magneto drive wobbling out of truth. X.3538. 3. B New Air Pump. We think it is doubtful whether there are sufficient advantages in the new air pump to warrant the change over in design with the necessary expense of tools and upsetting interchangeability of parts. The pump is very similar to the one we are using although all the parts are altered. Our impression is that the troubles we have found with the present pump can all be attributed to the fit of the piston in the cylinder. In the new pump the same conditions will occur. X.3775. X.3647a. 4. Coil. The coil on this car has had less high tension turns. The coil has given no trouble but we think it would be unwise to depart from the present standard coil. We have now had the experience of hundreds of these coils, whereas, we have only had one of the coils with the less turns running on a car. Contd. | ||
