We now specify good bedding of the brushes in production, by scraping and bench running and also give the control brush position within narrow limits. Some time ago we took a curve on a medium output machine with Z brushes. We then changed to FG2 brushes, bedded them in and re-set the control brush by temperature rise and repeated the curve. The result was an almost exact reproduction throughout of the first curve and the control brush position was the same. / Regarding sticking brushes are always liable to become sluggish especially if the machine is overoiled. We guard against this by having good clearances round the brush and by recommending cleaning periodically with petrol.
