To RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 48430 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}2/LG2.5.28. X 82430 Y235 98-NK CAR. We propose to use this car for steering tests with the castor pivots. We therefore would like the Marles steering removing and replacing by a standard 720 lead column and side steering tube with ends to N.sch.3258 - i.e. the standard replacement tube for V.{VIENNA} and B2. series side steering tube springs 1500 lbs/in. We require the axle with the castor pivots fitted to the front together with hydraulic shock absorbers - standard loading. We also require hydraulic shock absorbers to be fitted to the rear of the car and for the purpose of our tests it would be advantageous if we could retain the present Hartfords at the rear in addition. The unit of this car is in a very bad state and we should be glad if you would go over the bearings, pistons, valves etc. while the car is in the Shop.
