Re Worm Gears.

Mr Royce is of the opinion, after looking over the figures in Mr Bailey's sheet, that our gear might, with advantage, be fitted with another start in the worm.
In one of my previous notes I mentioned his suggestion that the centres of the gears should be reduced.
When this alteration is made it will probably mean adding to the number of starts on the worm and reducing the pitch of the teeth on the worm wheel.
Mr Royce thinks the width of the Hindley worm wheel has been made unnecessarily narrow, and does not see any reason why it should not have been as wide as the straight gear. He also thinks we might adopt a greater angle of embrace than we have done for the Hindley gear.

Thos. Nadin.
