ADVANCE NOTICE This information is issued pending the publication of complete specification lists and prices. The Burgess Industrial Air Cleaner is of the viscous coated maze type. Its special feature is the use of cellulose fibre instead of metallic filament. The outstanding advantage of the cellulose fibre lies in the fact that it actually absorbs oil and will hold from seven to twelve times as much oil as an equal volume of metallic filament, where the oil is only retained by adhesion to the surface. The cellulose fibre has the further advantage that it is not smooth as is the metallic fibre, but is covered with fine hair-like fibrils, which retain the dust cake once it is formed. As the dust cake builds up on the cellulose fibre, oil is drawn from the fibre - which acts as a reservoir - by the capillary action of the fine dust particles. Thus a cake is formed which is firmly bonded with viscous oil and is held in place by the reinforcing action of the fibrils along the surface of the fibre. In the case of the metal filament the dust cake is formed in the same manner until the oil which adheres to the surface of the filament is used up. There being no reservoir, additional dust draws oil from that already in place and weakens the bond to such an extent that the cake will fall off of the filament. Economical Replacement. The filter element is cleaned in the usual way and replacement cartridges will be available at a low cost. Acoustic Head. The larger sizes, for 3 inch bore intakeport and upwards, incorporate an acoustic panel built into the head, which reduces air intake noise and damps out resonance within the cleaner. This | ||
