u.s.a Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} BY/SS.{S. Smith}1/J.6.3.34. BENTLEY RADIATOR. Report from Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}in U.S.A. - Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}5/KW.3.3.34. With reference to Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}'s complaint of radiator leak, this would appear to be one of the first/experimental radiators built. The bottom tank had the original .250"dia. shouldered studs for the side supports and fractures at the root of the shoulder soon developed. The inner end of the stud is flush with the machined surface of the tank on which the matrix is soldered. In changing the studs, it is therefore easily possible to disturb the matrix. We have increased the stud diameter to .3125" and the Works take care the studs do not project through and foul the matrix. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}'s second complaint of having to withdraw the bottom water pipe studs before lifting the radiator, proves the early construction of this unit, as all cars have been fitted with setscrews in place of the studs for ready dismantling.
