To HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} 324 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.8/JH.23.12.37. FIVE BLADE FANS AND DRIVE - PHANTOM III. We now have a fan belt which shows promise of being very satisfactory - we therefore wish to run this on endurance on No.6. Phantom III Unit in conjunction with the 5 blade Cadillac fan and 1/1 ratio. We will hand you a spring drive pulley to EX.28138 and a Phantom III fan hub fitted with pulley to EX.26731 together with a five blade fan set. Will you please build this fan up using the special method of grease packing already requested on Wraith and fit together with the pulley to EX.28138 and belt (which Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std will supply) to No.6. Unit. Will you also carry out the following modifications to the wheel case of this unit for this test, machine or file the fan spindle adjustment slot so that the fan can be dropped a further 3/8", and fit four distance pieces to the wheel case and replace the starting handle support bracket bosses which have been filed off. The engine should have a starting handle support bracket fitted. We are also handing to you two five blade fans, one had duralumin blades fitted while the other had aluminium blades which have been damaged. Will you please fit new aluminium blades (as per EX.24136) to both of these fan flanges. These fans should then be used for 32-EX car and 35-EX car. Will you supply the necessary fan pulleys and hubs for this purpose. 32-EX car (No.1) unit) should retain the EX.28138 fan pulley at present fitted to it and have the wheelcase modified as requested above for No.6 unit. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std. will supply a suitable belt. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std. | ||
