CHASSIS 93-NK. Steering tests carried out on 93-NK. Front tyres carefully balanced. Tyre pressures - 60 lbs. 40 lbs. and 20 lbs. Tests at 60 lbs. pressure. There are no high speed wobbles, but at speeds of 60 m.p.h. and over, steering is unstable. This is on good roads. On uneven roads, there is a feeling that the wobbles are there, but they do not materialise. At low speeds there are no wobbles, also there is very little tendency to self-centre. Shocks on steering wheel are slight. Tests at 40 lbs. pressure. High speed wobbles 60 to 64 m.p.h. These are more pronounced, but do not build up. Steering is much more comfortable to handle at this pressure. Shocks on steering wheel are more pronounced. Self-centering is not so good. At speeds below 20 m.p.h. steering is very heavy and will not centre. There are no wobbles at low speeds. Tests at 20 lbs. pressure. There are no high speed wobbles. Steering is very bad for road shocks, which start at 35 m.p.h. approx. There are no low speed wobbles. With this pressure, car is very bad to hold to centre of road. It is very bad on corners, and also impossible at slow speeds. Condition of roads during test - dry. Lean of pivots will be checked up. We are today trying the tests with unbalanced wheels.
