re. S.S. CHASSIS.

We have received from the Experimental Dept. Standardisation Sheet No. X.7770 for the above, attaching specification RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}1/MS 16.3.29.

The S.S. Chassis on test do not agree with this specification in various particulars.

In order to put matters square, will you please let us know what modifications to the above specification are permissible on the S.S. Chassis which are now going through.

From our inspection the following are outstanding:-

(1) Road Spring Oiling Device.
The road spring oiling scheme as per para.1. under Front Springs and Fittings, and under para. 1. under Rear Springs and Fittings, are not included.

(2) Servo Motor Mechanism.
Para. 2. under the above heading calls for Cotton duck fabric linings instead of halo. The chassis coming through still have halo fittings.

(3) Water connections.
The specification calls for Silver Ghost type thermostat. No thermostat is fitted.

(4) Exhaust fittings.
The specification calls for sliding joint at junction of down-take pipe and front suspension box. At present this is a solid joint.

We shall be glad to have a reply on this matter as soon as possible, as we are expecting to have SS.{S. Smith}cars put up to us for final test and acceptance within the next few days.

A further point in connection with this, is that the Standardisation Sheet for the S.S. car has not yet been completed. In view of this, therefore, we take it Administration instructions for these chassis to be released when they have completed their tests will be necessary.
We are informed that 11 ofthese are very urgently wanted.
Thn.
