To RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}/S.Smith from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell} c. By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} 617 WRAITH CRANKSHAFT REAR END. Re your enquiry regarding which oil retaining scheme to use on the next 12 chassis you are to build, the new scheme ECD.238 has not yet been tested out, and until such time as this has been done and proved, we must adhere to the same arrangement as on your first 6 chassis and our experimental units. Our next new unit, however, is being fitted up with the new scheme as will be others if it promises well, but it will take some time to establish whether satisfactory or not. We recommend, therefore, that you commence to produce your crankshafts, leaving the machining of the rear end until the last in a condition which will make either scheme, also the parts affected by the same job. When the time comes that you are in the position of being held up by which scheme to use, we may be in a position to release the new scheme ECD.238, on the other hand we may not, in which case the existing arrangement be used as per your first 6 units.
