Clutch - Phantom III.

We send herewith N.Sch.4801 which shews hexagon headed setscrews substituted for the screws with internal hexagons at present in use on this clutch for the pressure lever adjustment.

The boss in the casing for the clutch operating shaft must be machined away as shown to give sufficient clearance for the screws.

It is not thought that this machining can have any effect on the strength of the casing that is of any consequence.

The hexagon headed screws should be used and not those with screwdriver slots.

We also shew extra holes in the web of the cross arm opposite the set screws which secure the starter motor to the crankcase. These are asked for by the Experimental Department to permit the screws to be inserted or removed without raising or lowering the engine as is now necessary.

Existing frames should be altered as shewn by the full size view, but the holes for frames not yet instructed should be as shown by the scrap view.

These frame alterations must not be instructed for production until they have passed 10,000 miles test.

N.Sch.4801 herewith.

E/HDY.{William Hardy}
