X7620 To BY/Cgh.{W Clough} from EFC. c. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} BY/RD. EFC4/T8.12.26. SOLID POLE PIECES X.4638. X.7620. X.8620. X.4132. X.5620. Referring to your By/Cgh{W Clough}21/G3.12.26, a standardisation sheet for solid poles for 20 HP. dynamo is being made out and circulated, in accordance with your first paragraph. In regard to your second para. which we understand refers to the provision of solid pole pieces on the 20 HP. starter motor, I am informed that we are at present obtaining the standard laminated pole pieces for the 40/50 HP. 6" motor from outside, and that in that case it is not likely that there would be any saving by having the solid pole pieces on this machine. Would this also apply to the 20 HP. motor ? Should we, however, propose to have the solid poles on this 20 HP motor, we should not regard this as involving any necessity to instruct same experimentally, from a brake efficiency point of view, as we know by tests we have made on the 40/50 6" motor that the efficiency of the motor is unaffected by such a change. The standardisation sheet we have made up for this purpose we are, therefore, holding in abeyance until we hear further from you, as it is considered to be entirely a question of manufacturing costs and not a question of technical performance. It will be noted, that we are adopting solid pole pieces on our sequence starter motor, so that such will automatically become standard when the sequence starter scheme comes on production. EFC. | ||
