To. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Copy to C.J. [Text Struck Through] EFC. X.4225 RE "GOSHAWK II" CYLINDER STUDS. In reply to the point raised by Mr. Bailey that the taper undercut on the cylinder studs for "Goshawk II" engine are likely to burst the stud boss in view of our past aero engine experience, would you kindly note that Mr. Royce proposes to overcome this difficulty by using a wire ring of square section, inserted in an undercut in the stud and butting against a counterbored shoulder in the stud boss. Would you kindly issue the necessary instructions for this alteration to be made. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} [Stamped Text] ORIGINAL RECEIVED 4 FEB 1921 RECEIVED.
