GOSHAWK 3. 4 SPEED BOX WITH SERVO. 5310

We send herewith drawing of the above - LeC.1897 - shewing the internal mechanism. This includes the gear-box shafts, wheels, and servo drive, change speed mechan-ism, and interlock.

A small gate will be fitted to the change speed lever shaft casing which will locate this lever sideways. Stops for end location of the wheels are provided in the box itself.

The particular features of this box are:-

(1) 4 speeds.
(2) Servo drive incorpor-ated.
(3) Ball & roller bearing reverse shaft.
(4) Simplified slider lock of ball plunger type.
(5) Simple & robust form of centre-ing mechanism for the change speed lever.
(6) Direct operation of re-verse without additional length to box or compli-cated eccentric reverse mechanism.

The forward part of this box is very similar to the 3 speed box with side lever and without servo, sent you some time ago. A window is provided in the R.H. side of the box for assembling the 3rd and 4th speed slider, also for locking the nut on this slider. A window is also provided on the other side of the box for locking the nut retaining the reverse wheel on its sleeve by means of the plate washer. It should be noted that this reverse wheel is located between a split ring of the piston type sprung into a groove on the sleeve at one end, and a nut clamping it against this ring at the other.

We intend that the lower lever on the vertical interlock shaft shall be pressed on tightly and pinned. The upper lever is serrated similarly to E.7416. that is, with one blank serration to locate its position, and is easily removable after detaching a small cover.

We would call your attention to the slight coun-ter-boring which has been asked for on the long slider.

The plain portion at the rear end of 3rd motion shaft is to be accurately ground, to enable the ground bore of large wheel and worm assembly to bed as uniformly here
