With reference to the difficulty of removing the fan belt, this has come about on the production cars due to two reasons:- (a) The adoption of the silent fan instead of the peregrine fan was originally intended, which means that there is less clearance between the fan and the radiator. (b) Using Dunlop belts which are about .1" deeper in section instead of Goodrich. We have looked into the possibilities of a cure making the minimum number of alterations. We do not wish to move the radiator and front crossmember forward as it means altering a number of press tool pieces. We think the easiest thing to do is to make a new fan hub, and a new starter dog nut on the end of the crankshaft. This will increase the clearance for passing through the belt by .175". We send you herewith Lec.3784 showing these modifications. The starting handle shaft may or may not require some alteration in length, depending on the positions of the bearings.
