BY FROM E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} C. to HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X2894 E1/M17.9.27. BATTERY IGNITION. X8692 We send herewith drawings LeCs. 2460/1. shewing the above arranged with two further types of scrubbing contacts, and also with an improved type of contact arm spring. LeC. 2460. shews the scrubbing contact arranged in the most easily adapted form for the present parts. This should be tested out as early as possible, as, if it should prove successful we should prefer to adopt this rather than move the L.T. terminal. LeC. 2461. shews the original type of scrubbing contact with a long mounting, but made in 14 gauge steel instead of the previous shaped mounting. This is to render this design more practical and easily produced. The free ended spring has been drawn with the object of overcoming spring breakage, as there is no sudden stress change in it. It is anchored by means of a stirrup, which is a great convenience in detaching the rocker. The flexible is shewn on the drawing in both instances for carrying the current from the contact arm to earth, but this should only be used if the spring is found unsatisfactory as regards making contact.
