X7460 To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from He/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls} C.c. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} WdT. C.c. R.{Sir Henry Royce} By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} C.c. Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} PETROL PUMPS - P.II. We have carried out some tests to show whether the autovac with suction pump system at present fitted to P.II cars, is adequate for the conditions imposed by the semi-expanding carburetter Led.2972. Two tests were conducted, one at high speeds and one at low speeds. The autovac was run dry, the main supply turned on, and the car ran full throttle up to maximum speeds (85 m.p.h. approx.). Although the car hesitated a few times while accelerating, the normal maximum speed was attained and then held, without signs of petrol shortage. The second test was from a similar start with dry autovac up hill at 10 m.p.h. full throttle in top gear. No shortage of petrol was observed and in fact after several minutes climbing the autovac contained a considerable quantity of petrol. We therefore consider the present petrol system suitable for the new carburetter. He/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls} | ||
