1263 7th June, 1941. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/EAG.1/RH.{R. Hollingworth} Self-Priming Pump & Engineering Co., Ltd., Edinburgh Avenue, Trading Estate, S L O U G H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} Bucks. Attention Mr. Lawes. Dear Sirs, Thank you for your letter of June 2nd. We have to-day despatched your David type petrol pump, No. 16868 which we had on loan for testing while our own model was being reconditioned. The latter was received this morning. Your pump has been undergoing tests at high temperatures, being heated in a steam chamber. This has caused discolouring of the paint, and we think deterioration of the neoprene. From the start, the pump would not hand prime effectively, and the reason was found to be in the "U" shaped piece which is threaded through the spindle. This was bend, and the stroke obtained was only 0.070" as compared with 0.150" on our pump. We must apologise for the wear on the plunger, which occured due to a failure of the lubrication. Indeed, the condition of the pump generally is not "as new" and we are willing to buy it if you so desire. Yours faithfully, for ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED, | ||
