| To Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} From G.W.H. Hotel de France, Chateauroux(French test region), FRANCE. 16.4.34. 28-EX. We have finished the various jobs and the car has resumed running. The taking out of the plungers of the auto adjustment and making them solid took longer than was expected; packing washers had to be made and fitted to make the eccentric bearing solid. The petrol pumps are giving us a lot of trouble. The single pump I dismantled this morning was full of dirt behind the diaphragm, and bits of brass worn away from the locating brass washers. These washers gave every appearance of being trapped in the groove, making the diaphragm work sluggishly. The fitting of the petrol pipes in the frame of the exhaust side is wrong as there is considerable heat which the pipes absorb with consequent heat to the petrol. We have lagged the pipes on the dashboard side, also the petrol tap body, to try and keep the boiling of the petrol down. We hope to give you results of our temperature tests later.
