Reason for Scheme :- To provide additional frame stiffness as requested by memo FJH{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer}/GB.3/HM{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} 15.12.43, for 17swg(.056) frames. Other Schemes used in conjunction PL.897 and PL.988 - Rear Bumper Mounting. RB.{R. Bowen}10007 and RB.{R. Bowen}10009 - Body Mounting. RF.2259 Frame. Description of Scheme :- A plate to form a fourth side has been added to the rear crossmember, to oppose torsional deflection. To suit the addition of same, the rear body mounting and rear bumper attachment have been modified. Plates have been added, tying up the top of the body brackets to the frame side members, to prevent the body brackets pulling away from frame. Major Parts affected. No major parts are affected. The increased stiffness is provided by additional parts. Effect of Interchangeability. Although designed to suit existing frame conditions, the scheme is such that it will be suitable for a finished chassis. Instructions Ev{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}/HH to detail, and Wym{G. Harold Whyman - Experimental Manager} to arrange to produce 2 sets and fit to 2 existing Myth frames. Remarks. This scheme has been made to accomodate existing frames. Should the design prove to be satisfactory it should be reviewed for production chassis. The rear crossmember could be simplified if the body mountings and rear bumper mountings were modified and if the attachment of the body brackets to the side frame top flange were incorporated in the body brackets themselves, this would again be a simplification. The design should also be considered for the replacement of tack welding by spot-welding. EV{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}/MGA.{M. G. Aspley} [signature] Tracings to Ev{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}/HH.
