RE. DYNAMO ON 18.G.IV.

The dynamo on 18.G.IV. apparently has not been brought up to date; it will not maintain the battery charge. In comparison with the dynamo fitted to 19.G.IV. the following are the differences in the output.

18.G.IV. half charge dynamo just balances at 19 M.P.H., at 30 M.P.H. the output is 4.4 amps, at 40 M.P.H. 6 amps, and at 70 M.P.H. 5 amps; whereas with the dynamo fitted to 19.G.IV. the dynamo balanced at 16 M.P.H. at 20 M.P.H. the output was 3.5 amps, at 30 M.P.H. 7.5 amps, at 40 M.P.H. 7.5 amps, at 50 M.P.H. 7.5 amps, and at 60 M.P.H. 7.0 amps.

It will be seen therefore, that we are definitely down with the output with 18.G.IV. dynamo. Can Wgt. give any explanation for this. We shall in the meantime endeavour to increase the output by pushing the control brush forward as we cannot carry on. We are aware that we are using 60 watt headlamp bulbs, but this does not in any way interfere with the half charge output.

RE. 24.EX IN PARIS.

We have received a letter from Hm.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} stating that the steering on 24.EX in Paris, is not better. I am still waiting to hear from him after he has again tried the car with the discs taken off the road wheels as I did not like the heavy mounting on the hubs that had been fitted to hold the discs. Everything else, as I know of, has been done to make the steering steady, but it would appear to have the same characteristics that are with all left hand steerings. I am again going up to Paris as soon as I hear from Hm.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} It appears that EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} did not pass this steering before the car left Derby, but as it had to be rushed off to the Show, nothing was done.

RE. 18.G.IV.

A maximum speed of 81 M.P.H. has been reached with this car, but there has been no sign of the master crankshaft period.

We do not intend to fit the smaller balance weights brought out, without being definitely instructed, or if we definitely run into the crankshaft period.
