-2- Hm{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs}11/W19.3.24 Contd. the body. A ventilator was fitted to the top of the scuttle and one to the roof. Neither of these helped to get rid of the smells, in fact we thought with the roof ventilator open it was worse. This particular car is probably one of the worst type for smells. It has a large and high body with a square back, and the suction created appears to be tremendous, both fumes and dust overtaking the car quite a distance when it is pulled up suddenly. We wish to point out that although the customer has blamed us for having suffered considerably from sickness due to fumes, it is largely a question of body design and workmanship. Our chief criticism of the body is that on account of a moveable front seat, and adjustable back chair seats, many holes were made in the floor boards for a fixing bolt to suit different positions. All these holes were exposed to the fumes under the body, and consequently the fumes got inside the body. Crevices were found at all the joints of the floor boarding and the structure for the rear seat. A better design of stream-line body should be an advantage. Attached is copy of a report from EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} after he had made a test of the car. Hm.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} ENCLOSURE Nº 927 "JUSTSO" | ||
