Copy X4612 17360. X4612 To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} re Brakes on P.II's. Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}17/E10.4.31. Copy to Mor. PN.{Mr Northey} I should be glad to know how we stand now in regard to the question of a modification to overcome the difficulty of the brakes losing their effectiveness when used fairly continuously in mountainous country etc. You will remember that this is a complaint which was first raised when one of the Bentley people (either Birkin or Kidston) tried a P.II car soon after it was announced in 1929, but the trouble still seems to be with us and I understand that Heckford experienced it on 26-EX when abroad recently. I understand that in connection with this and brake squeaks we have been trying ribbed brake drums made in steel and cast iron, and in this connection I have before me Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/GWH{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}6/KT.1.4.31. There are, however, two entirely separate points - one is a modification to eliminate rear brake squeaks and the other is the modification to eliminate the trouble referred to, and I should be glad to know how we stand in regard to both.
