Phantom is in any way different as regards springing to the Silver Ghost. when fitted with 4-wheel brakes.
(2) We do not believe the difference between the Silver Ghost with front wheel brakes and the Silver Ghost without front wheel brakes is a difference which could be readily noticed. Whatever the difference is, we are certain it can easily be swamped by the errors in the weight of the springs and friction.
We are proposing to make tests where the judges of the springing will be blind-folded and then try a number of cars to see whether the difference under these conditions can be distinguished.
In our opinion the most convincing proof that the modifications in fitting front wheel brakes do not spoil the springing of the car, is the fact that we delivered 350 Silver Ghost cars of the standard type without front wheel brakes - these cars were afterwards returned by the customers and had the brakes fitted and the springs altered. There is no record of a single customer criticising the springing after the car was returned to him. This is a far more convincing test than anything we can do because the customer had actually run the car with the same body, cushions, tyres and conditions and we then changed the springs. If there had been any reduction in the riding qualities we should undoubtedly have received complaints.
The percentage of springing complaints we receive from customers on the 40/50 HP. chassis is no greater now than we received when we made the Silver Ghost without front wheel brakes.
