X4150 To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to CJ. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}2/LG4.7.21. X4150 THRUST FOR GLEASON BEVEL GEARS. Referring to your telegram received today. We have a standardisation sheet for the double thrust bearing for the Gleason Bevel Gears on the Rear Axle. The standardisation sheet was sent out originally in November 1920. It was held up by CJ. because no road tests had then been carried out. The standardisation sheet was completed on the 3rd. March 1921/. Our recommendation is that instructions should be issued to the works that from a certain time, say the end of the this month, no more axles should be erected with single thrust bearings on the bevel pinion. With the present production and stocks in hand, standardisation sheets do not help us to get improvements on the car, unless it is laid down that after a certain date, no more cars should be despatched unless the improvement is fitted.
