At 39,965 miles the suspension failed at Coleshill with a broken front torque arm. The car was towed to Oscrofts Ltd, Derby, for a complete suspension overhaul, and was out of service for five weeks.

The engine at this stage was again becoming the worse for wear, the big ends and main bearings etc. rattling, and the car was sent to Vauxhall Motors Ltd, who fitted a reconditioned engine, and the following work was carried out by them
