giving 1.5" front buffer clearance, cadmium plated and well
lubricated.

This is the type of springing we are at present
offering to customers. The springs had been in service about 6
months without being lubricated other than through the gaiters
occasionally.

EFFECT OF SHOCK ABSORBERS.
--------------------------

We carried out tests with standard tyre pressures
of 35 lbs/sq.in. rear, 40 lbs/sq.in. front. The tests were as
follows :-
(1) All shock absorbers on.
(2) Rear shock absorbers disconnected only.
(3) Front shock absorbers
4) All shock absorbers removed.
(5)
Our results shewed us :-
(a) That when the rear shock absorbers are dis-
connected only (Test 2.) the riding of the car in the rear seats
is actually worse than when all the shock absorbers are in action
i.e., if the front of the car is held and the rear left unrestrain-
ed{J. L. Edwards}, uncomfortable riding results in the back seats.

(b) That when the front shock absorbers are
removed only, the riding in the rear seats is very noticeably
better than with all the shock absorbers in action.

(c) That when all the shock absorbers are dis-
connected the riding is slightly worse at this speed than when the
front are disconnected only. At higher speeds of course the
riding is bad with all shock absorbers disconnected.
