Continuation of Letter from VANDERVELL PRODUCTS LTD. dated 7th November, 1936.

To W.A.Robotham Esq., Messrs.Rolls-Royce Ltd.

"While the crankshaft is hollow, we are guessing from the parts or blue prints which were given us that there is not an undisturbed continued passage through the crankshaft, but that it is necessary to supply oil from each main bearing into the crankshaft journal and from there to the adjacent crankpin.

We like to make it clear that, if we are mistaken in our interpretation of the crankshaft construction, and if a continuous passage is provided throughout the crankshaft for the oil, we would rather have recommended that the oil grooves be omitted from the intermediate bearings and sufficient oil be introduced through the front, center and rear bearings into the hollow crankshaft to take care of all the pins."

The Price for three complete experimental sets of these bearings will be £45.0.0.

With regard to the valve rocker bush I enclose herewith our Drawing No.808.B which covers the method of using two bushes pushed in from either end and allowing the oil groove in the middle, or alternatively, one bush with an oil groove and two holes. The holes have been made sufficiently big in order to make the alignment simple, but in our suggestions we are not quite sure whether there is sufficient oil flow for the oiling of the valve stems and the ball joints on the push rods.

Yours faithfully,
VANDERVELL PRODUCTS LIMITED.
