TO Ds. from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to Sd. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} c. to Sy. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Sp.{Mr Spinney} ORIGINAL GOSHAWK CARBURETTER MODIFICATIONS. X4225 X We send you herewith drawing No. Lec 1598 showing the carburetter modifications mentioned by Mr. Royce in his note of recent date. We find that you have altered the petrol level in height raising it about .150/in the float chamber. Mr. Royce thinks it may be dangerously high for spilling on gradients, and that the conclusion that it was necessary to raise the petrol level may be false, and arrived at at the time when the performance of the carburetter was unsatisfactory, and in the experimental stages. He thinks that the petrol level should be put back to where we arranged it. The friction lock for the starting carburetter jet has been modified to make it more fool-proof, and the needle has been shewn with a very much finer taper to increase the effective range of the adjustment. The needle should be arranged a running fit in the top of the jet on it's large diameter, as shewn on the scale 10/1 illustration on Lec 1598 and as shewn on the original Lec drawing. The hole in the sliding choke tube element through which the needle passes should be very definitely clear. The needle is made so that it cannot be jammed on to it's taper seating, but passes inside. The other modifications are explained on the drawing. It will be noticed that we ask for all the jets to be arranged so that they can be operated by standard 2 BA box spanners supplied in the kit.
