IMPROVED CLUTCH BRAKE FOR 40/50 CHASSIS. X.3546

We have completed the Clutch Brake made to Lec. 1049 and arrangement drawing C.6841. This arrangement of Clutch Brake is more simple and should be cheaper to make than the existing one. The scheme allows for it to be much easier to adjust. As it has been drawn, it is not easy to adjust because the arrangements have omitted to show the pedal shaft in position. When this is in position the knurled collar comes directly underneath it and it is difficult to get at. The most easy place to get at the knurled collar would be about 1" from the front end.

The points which we recommend should be modified are the following:-

(1) Lever G.6466 and Washer G.6477 should have a location for the spring which controls the pad or as an alternative, the spring could be reduced in diameter so that it is located on the boss on the lever.

(2) Bolt K.106 for bolting bracket to channel, is too short - bolt K.108 should be used.

(3) A note should be put on "C" drawing that the knurled piece is to be pinned and sweated on to the rod.

(4) The limits on Lever G.6466, brackets C.6822 and Bush G.6828 allows for so much side play. We suggest that varying thicknesses of packing washers might be used to reduce this otherwise there is a danger of the clutch brake rubbing.

(5) Bolt K.208 in lever is too long.

We are sending to Mr. Royce one of these Brakes for his inspection.

EH.
