The failure of axle pivots during a bumping test and a subsequent design modification.

In reply to Mr Royce's memo R13/P11213, Mr Haldenby wishes us to point out that the pivot which broke after 6 hours during the bumping test of frame with box section front horns (X.711) was P.3372, similar to those now being used for 2700 series but superseded by P.3697.

The pivot which broke at the end of 13 1/2 hours was P.3697 standard 2700 type.

As a result of this the bore hole of the latter pivot has been reduced.

We attach herewith a blue print of both these pivots.
