SUBJECT
15th. May 1940.

Dear Sirs,

We acknowledge receipt of your letter of 10th. inst. for which we thank you.

We have no 4-cylinder Vacumatic Distributor in regular production, but the only difference between such a Distributor and our 647.GB, of which you have a sample, would be that the cam would have 4 lobes, and the H.T. cap would have outlets for 4 plug wires, as in the case of SM.1009.L. We would be pleased to supply three such units under our Part No. 647.X, which would be exactly as the 647.GB, generally to our Drawing 9A.9633, but modified as above.

With regard to the 6 and 8 cylinder two lever type Distributors, it is somewhat difficult to fit this type of Distributor with vacumatic control, acting on a circuit breaker plate with two circuit breaker arms, owing to the circuit breaker arm reaction, this force alternating through 180°. It is for this reason that all our vacumatic Distributors have one circuit breaker arm, as in the case of the American built Buick, Oldsmobile, etc. To avoid circuit breaker arm bounce, this Distributor is, necessarily, fitted with a special light arm; undoubtedly you are familiar with these cars.

For the above reasons we still use the vacuum control attached to the timing lever for the two lever type Distributors; these are shown on our Drawing AD/9/7454, but their layout can, of course, be modified to suit any particular engine.
