- 2 - With regard to the tappets grooving and the camshafts scoring, as reported on page 3, we agree this must be due to some extraneous cause. As mentioned to you we believe it would be beneficial to reduce the rubbing velocity, and have put in hand a modified camshaft with a smaller diameter base circle for the cams. This means reducing the diameter of the camshaft, but it is sufficiently well supported to withstand this. With regard to the instances where the bottom tappets do not line up truly with the camshaft, thereby causing cross bedding, this fault should be eliminated with the use of proper jigs. We can however make more certain of clearance not affecting the location by a small modification, and at the same time we are stiffening up the tappet guide block in an endeavour to reduce any distortion effects causing the end tappets to become tight.
