B.60 - B.80 Units.

We give herewith our up to date programme for the above units.

B.80.

It is intended to use 2.75 journal crankshaft in .4 carbon steel on all future units, the nose end of the crank being left unmachined pending further investigation of the damper. In view of the above, will you please modify the existing '80' pattern to accommodate this in accordance with EBD.1186.

When this has been carried out take off 6 crankcase castings, following which the pattern to be converted back to a '60' pattern, but still retaining the modifications to suit the 2.75 journal crank.

No alterations are considered on the existing B.80 cylinder unless the head modifications EXS.1383 and PD.368 as applied to B.60 show an improvement.

Conventional 8.

The necessary new patterns are to be made for the conventional '8' crankcase and cylinder head, but for the moment no work should proceed beyond completing the patterns.

B.60.

As stated under the B.80 heading the B.80 crankcase pattern is being converted back to the B.60 and will incorporate mods. to suit the 2.75 journal crank. In this condition 4 castings should be taken.

Regarding the cylinder heads, 4 castings should be taken off the modification EXS.1383, then using any pattern parts which are useful, modify to PD.368 and take 4 castings.

As for B.80, the crankshafts, for future B.60 units should all have 2.75 journal cranks in .4 carbon steel with the nose end left unmachined pending a decision of the
