Re Completion of Corniche
Car by Kellners.

I understand that you anticipate no difficulty in getting a permit to take a chassis into France under Bond for the body to be fitted, and getting an export licence afterwards.

From enquiries we have made we are not able to send the chassis to you under this arrangement - that is to say, we cannot get a licence here although we should have no difficulty in arranging the shipping; so that you would have to obtain this permit from the French Government.

When the car is completed the British Board of Trade will issue a permit to bring the chassis into England, and provided there is no further alterations or regulations they would agree to the complete car coming in with the French body.

You will appreciate that there are difficulties in this respect on account of the wish to limit imports as far as possible except of necessities, and preserving cash.

Anyway, they are willing to issue us a licence now which will last for three months, subject to it being cancelled by any Order in Council.

We are obtaining these forms and it will be necessary for you to help us in filling in the detail.

In the meantime perhaps you will set about making application for a licence to import a B-V chassis.
At the moment we have to decide which one it will be and as soon as this is decided we will advise you of the chassis number.

I understand Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} is anxious for this car to be road tested in France. Will your licence allow of this without paying the duty?
