(Note) This constant pressure was maintained for a period of 28 minutes at which time the temperatures of the oil had become sufficiently high because of constant circulation to be over the danger point of losing oil pressure. In fact this fluidity had become such that the leak through the pump gears reduced pressure from 28 to 27½ pounds. The readings at the end of 28 minutes are as follows:
TIME Oil temperature Room temperature Oil pressure
28 19 3 27½ lbs.

It was interesting to note that when the pump was started with the B.W.P. device in operation that the Float sucked its way and buried itself down into the butter-like consistency of the oil, leaving its contour in the oil to a depth of approximately one inch.

As a result of these tests an attempt was made to duplicate them as nearly as possible in our own laboratory in the following way: Using the same set-up equipment outlined in the test No 1 Mobiloil c c having a pour test of 90° to 105° averaging 97½° was placed in the oil sump. Two distinct runs were conducted, one with the suction bell and screen assembly used by a certain very reputable manufacturer, the second using the B.W.P. suction device.

RUN No. 1.

Air temperature 76 degrees, producing an equivalent to 6 degrees below zero in terms of Mobiloil "A". The baffle designs used in the sump were the conventional Studebaker President 8 design. For sake of clarifying one point; the suction bell and screen assembly referred to in the above paragraph is not the product of the Studebaker Corporation.
