1209. To EJJ. from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}4/MH.{M. Huckerby}21.6.39. NO.5 TEST HOUSE. We wish to incorporate a coupling with torsional flexibility between the gearbox and the dynamometer in connection with oscillation tests that are being carried out. We do not know whether any such couplings are catalogued by anyone; however, the flexibility required is approximately 2°/250 ft.lbs. torque, the maximum torque of the engine running at a constant speed of 2000 r.p.m. being 300 lbs/ft. If possible, we should like to be able to vary the flexibility, in which case a rubber buffer type of coupling would be preferable where varying hardness of rubbers could be obtained. The coupling should be bolted up to the gearbox drive flange and other conditions in its specification are that it should be capable of being run up to 4500 r.p.m. and transmitting 200 BHP. Attached is sheet B.5219 for the job. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell} | ||
