W/HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Rolls-Royce Co., 14 Conduit St.{Capt. P. R. Strong}, London, Eng. New York, April 2, 1921. MD Attention Mr. Hives, Engineer. Dear Sirs: The writer had the pleasure of demonstrating to you DOUBLE SEAL RINGS at the Rolls-Royce factory at Springfield, Mass. He understood at the time that as soon as Mr. Olley, who was then sick, returned that we might receive a trial order for a set of DOUBLE SEAL RINGS. We called at the factory recently, met Mr. Olley and he stated that they could not use even for trial anything except they had your written approval and instructions so to use. We will very much appreciate the favor if you will find it convenient and practical to favor us with an order for a trial installation to be made either here at your New York service station or at the factory at Springfield. It may refresh your memory to state that one 1/4" ring is sufficient for compression placed in the top groove of your piston with the solid edge of the ring looking toward pressure, and another ring may be placed in opposite position in the first groove above the wrist pin so as to pack against suction and prevent the passage of oil from the crank case to the combustion chamber. This comprises a very practical installation and one which definitely separates the combustion chamber from the crank case and vice versa. Your further interest in our product will be very much appreciated. Yours very truly, DOUBLE SEAL RING CO. OF N.Y. By O.P.Sells OPS.W RECEIVED RECEIVED | ||
