Bijur.

A six-volt Bijur set which was run for a considerable time on 49-GB behaved, according to all reports, very well. The operating coil in this instance would be voltage only, but since the control takes place at the terminals of the dynamo and the leads have certain resistance between the dynamo and the battery, this in itself introduces almost exactly the effect of some small amount of compound winding. The supply from the dynamo at the switchbox would have a falling characteristic.

A number of tests on this same set taken from 49-GB were carried out and reported in our EFC5/T22.1.18, the performance being very good. Since that time, however, we have had a certain amount of trouble due to erratic control on a second 6-volt set, and later still we have had a number of 12 volt sets for trial, none of which have remained permanently satisfactory under running chassis conditions. It has for instance been reported to me only yesterday that the latest one put on has, after running more or less correctly for some time, developed erratic behaviour.

We also tried a 12-volt set out on the bench exactly as received sealed from U.S.A. and the characteristic curves were quite wrong. The last three regulators we have tried on chassis (4EX) have all been sealed and in spite of this have not given permanent satisfaction. We think that the satisfaction experienced with these instruments in U.S.A.
