WST 6037 Re. 20/25HP TANK ENGINE MEADOWS. Referring to the visit of our Tester Lewis to Perham Down Camp - below we give you a copy of his report:- 24.4.35. "Referring to my visit to Perham Down Camp, I have modified the carburetters on 26 engines there." "I was able to obtain examples of the failures of the screened H.T.Cables but was unable to get hold of a complete set as the new Mark III tanks have done only a small mileage and have not given trouble up to the moment." "I checked the ignition plug gaps on a tank which had screened leads removed about a month ago - these plugs had not been removed for over six months, the gaps varied from 0.020" to 0.025" (Side note: The recommended gap is .015.) "The screened H.T. leads are to be removed from all RR & Meadows engines and plain H.T. leads, fitted with resisters, are to replace them." "The following is taken from the official note. RR & Meadows Engines to be fitted with plain H.T. leads and to have an ErieResistor Type L.S. 5000 ohms. for S.A thread and Erie Resistor Type S.S. 1000 ohms. fitted respectively at sparking plug end and distributor end of each cable." "In addition, on RR engines only, on Erie Resistor Type S.S. 5000 ohms. to be fitted at distributor end of cable coil to distributor" (Side note: This deals with the points raised in K/1141/HP 22.3.35.) "Referring to the dynamo trouble, this was confined to a batch of Mark III tanks received last year. These have been found to have the Dynamo positive wire on the negative of the dynamo and the negative wire on the positive, this mistake has now been rectified and up to the moment they have had no further dynamo trouble." "In a few cases fanblades had come loose, these had been retightened by the Tank Corps fitters. There is some talk of fitting magnetos to the engines to contd- | ||
