1. FROM DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} Copy to - CG. [crossed out] " CX.{Major Len W. Cox - Advertising Manager} [crossed out] " HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} P. 2. INSTRUMENT BOARD. N. 2. SERIES. ORIGINAL. x7530. x7430. We thank you for BY/CGH{W Clough}12/G231030, and also for the picture layout of the board for 'C' and 'D' type steering and print of D.72857. We think that the arrangement for 'C' and 'D' type is the best we can do, and we presume that you will now make an instrument board print covering all angles of steering similar to F.80461 for the present arrangement. It would be necessary only to have one dimensioned board and one picture layout of the board, and as the alternative position for 'C' and 'D' type columns can be indicated on the layout recommended for the more raked column. We think a note should be written against the switchbox saying "When there is insufficient room for the switchbox to be "placed over the top of the steering column it should be displaced "to the side, thus." This may have to be done on some 'D' type cars and on most 'C' type cars. We do not think it is necessary to give dimensions to the outside shape of the instrument board, in fact, we think it is wrong because we do not want to be responsible for making the coach-builder do something which may not be applicable to all cars. All that is needed is the dimensioned shape of the whole into which each instrument goes, and a dimension showing the position of the starting carburetter control from the centre of the car. It is obvious that the instruments have to be balanced up and in some cases slightly more crowding together or opening out might make a better board, and might result in it being possible on 'D' steering to get the switchbox in the place we prefer. We have always recommended this policy. Also if we can get all the numbers on one print we shall save money. We return herewith print of D.72857. indicating most of these changes.
